In China, the orchid has for centuries been one of the "Four Gentlemen" of classical painting, alongside plum blossom, bamboo and chrysanthemum, and there it stands for grace and modesty. Multicoloured Phalaenopsis like this one are created through targeted crossbreeding; in nature, clear violet and white patterns are the exception.
