The broad leaves are reminiscent of a banana plant and come in deep green. The black nursery pot is simple and stable; a decorative pot is not included. The plant and leaves are made of plastic and only need dusting when necessary.

In its native South Africa, Strelitzia nicolai grows into a multi-stemmed tree, which is why it is also called the tree strelitzia. Its white flowers with a blue tongue sit in a firm, boat-shaped bract, on which sunbirds land and pollinate the plant in the process.
